ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
Kristen Taylor has brought massive audiences online together for more than a decade on celebrated, creative teams in journalism and entertainment. She was staff community lead for Serial Podcast, senior producer for Al Jazeera, associate director for PBS, online manager at the Knight Foundation, senior editor of a new community vertical at the Huffington Post, and director at PopTech – and has been trusted to define the online editorial voice in consulting for IBM, Yahoo, BBC News, Fusion TV, the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), and "Doctor Who," among other clients.
Kristen's non-linear career includes teaching original courses at NYU's ITP graduate degree program on designing online community and she has run two successful Kickstarter projects for Saucy Magazine, a thematic print publication that examines the intricate ways we eat and a Kickstarter collaboration for The Salty Project. She has taught hundreds of students writing and close-reading, left her doctoral work at the University of Virginia to improve language in tech, and believes in cooking. She also weaves and makes cocktail hats.

Making a universal food visible
Going through old notes, Kristen found an idea to go see where salt begins and realized salt is a universal foodstuff.
All humans need it, many animals cannot function without it, and some of us are driven to it, through migration and travel and curiosity.
In November 2017, Kristen went to Argentina, Mexico in December, then in January, Peru, Bolivia, Chile. There was a tire that blew off a rental in Death Valley, an engine that wouldn’t start in Utah. All of those stories are in a new print magazine, the first, of Salty.
This project is a collaboration with CW&T.
